Step-by-Step Process

Preparation and Application of Straightening Cream
Begin by shampooing the hair, but do not brush or vigorously shampoo the scalp before applying the straightening cream. Thoroughly towel dry the hair. Comb and section the hair into four parts. Apply the Silk Essence Straightening Cream section by section, starting at the nape, ensuring it is kept 1/2 inch away from the scalp. As you apply, gently comb the hair straight with a wide-tooth comb.

Initial Processing and Strand Testing
Process the hair for five minutes initially. To check for completeness, take a few strands of hair at the midpoint between the crown and the nape, and coil the hair around your index finger. If the hair maintains its coiled form, it has been fully processed. If the coil opens, the hair requires additional processing time.

Continuous Testing and Rinsing
Perform the strand test in several different areas of the head, including the crown, back, sides, and top. Repeat this test every five minutes until the processing is confirmed as complete across all sections. Once ready, rinse the hair for five to seven minutes with warm water to thoroughly remove the straightening cream.

Hair Drying and Sectioning for Ironing
After rinsing, finger dry the hair with a dryer, making sure to leave approximately 10% to 20% moisture remaining in the hair before proceeding to the straightening iron. Comb and section the hair again, starting at the nape. Take very thin 1/8th sections that are not longer than the iron's length.

Straightening Iron Operation
Set the iron to a safe temperature of 180° Celsius (356° Fahrenheit) or less. Keep the iron at least 1/2 to 3/4 inch away from the scalp. Starting near the root, treat one-third of the hair shaft by pressing, sliding, and repeating this action 2 times (2 seconds per location). Continue this procedure methodically up to the top of the head.

Neutralizing and Final Rinse
Once ironing is complete, apply the Silk Essence Neutralizing Cream, starting at the nape and using 3/4-inch partings. Comb the hair with a wide-tooth comb to ensure even distribution. Process the neutralizer for five minutes, and then thoroughly rinse it out for approximately five minutes. The treatment is now complete; do not shampoo the hair for 48 to 72 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is smoothening the same as straightening?
Not exactly — smoothening uses milder chemicals and gives a softer, sleeker finish compared to harsh straightening.
Will smoothening damage my hair?
Since it uses chemicals to break bonds, it may weaken hair if not followed by good care. Regular conditioning is key.
How long does the effect last?
Typically 4–6 months, depending on hair type and aftercare.
Is it suitable for thin or weak hair?
It’s better suited to thick, coarse hair. Fine or already damaged hair might suffer more breakage.
Can I oil and wash my hair normally after smoothening?
After the initial 3–4 days, you can wash and oil your hair — but always use gentle, sulfate-free products.
Will my roots grow out curly or wavy again?
Yes, your natural texture grows out at the roots, so touch-ups may be needed after a few months.
